The PES crew will be emphasising the Performance aspect of their expertise this weekend as they take part in the L’Eroica Britannia cycling event. They will be part of a team representing “The Man of Steel” sculpture project.

L’Eroica Britannia recreates the famous Italian cycling event on British soil, extolling the original Italian ethos celebrating “environment, heritage, well-being and the joys of local food and drink.” It will take place through the Peak District National Park over the weekend of June 20th-22nd.

The L’Eroica Britannia event will comprise a three-day festival with the highlight being a tour of the Peak District National Park on Sunday June 22nd offering 30-, 50- or 100-mile route options. The Man of Steel team ,including the PES riders have opted for the 50 mile route which they will be undertaking on pre-1987 bikes and in retro apparel to get into the spirit of the event.

Dan Fleetcroft, PES Design Director commented; “We’re all looking forward to this event, although the bikes are completely different to those we work on for our clients – and usually ride. Not a hint of composite materials to be seen and bike designs that in the 1980s were still heavily based on those from the 1950’s & ‘60s.

“In some ways we’d love to optimise the performance aspects of our bikes but that’s not what the L’Eroica Britannia event is all about.”

The original L’Eroica event in Italy started in 1997 and has grown to quickly become one of the most popular international cycling events with over 5,000 cyclists taking part.

The L’Eroica Britannia festival will take place at the Little Royal showground, near Bakewell. It will include vintage bike stands alongside current bike brands, live entertainment, food and drink. The event takes place just a few weeks before the Grand Depart of the 2014 Tour de France in Yorkshire.
