Professor Mike Maddock – Managing Director

Mike Maddock

Mike Maddock is CEO of United Kingdom Aerial Vehicles Ltd, a start-up developing next-generation autonomous aerial vehicle technology, and CEO of MAMC Ltd, a specialist consultancy business that owns and operates PES Scanning and PES Performance. He is also a Board Director of Nixene Ltd, an advanced graphene materials business.

Career

Mike brings extensive leadership experience across manufacturing, engineering, innovation, retail operations and high-performance environments. Before moving into innovation and advanced manufacturing, he spent over a decade in multi-site retail leadership for a major PLC and a venture-backed business. As Regional Operations Director, he sat on the executive board and was responsible for multiple businesses with annual turnover ranging from £153 million to £400 million, leading regional teams of more than 3,000 people.

Today, Mike plays an active role in the UK manufacturing and innovation landscape. He is Chair of Make UK’s Yorkshire and Humber Regional Membership Board and sits on the Make UK National Membership Board. His commitment to engineering, enterprise and technology adoption is further reflected in his appointment as a Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sheffield. He is also a member of the University of Sheffield’s Technology Adoption Board and holds a board position with Space Hub Yorkshire.

In addition, Mike contributes to a number of government and industry advisory groups, providing insight on manufacturing, innovation, business growth, technology adoption and AI. He is a Board Member of the Small Business Charter, where he supports university business school accreditation and the national Help to Grow programme, led by the Department for Business and Trade, which helps SME leaders strengthen and scale their businesses.

Mike has also represented the Department for Business and Trade on international trade missions, speaking on the strength, relevance and global potential of UK innovation.

Beyond business and board roles, Mike brings a distinctive background shaped by elite performance and high-pressure environments. He represented Great Britain for seven years in Skeleton bobsleigh and previously served for thirteen years in the Royal Navy as a Clearance Diver and Bomb Disposal Operative. These experiences continue to shape his approach to leadership, operational discipline, resilience, planning and performance under pressure
